February is Match Month @ Post Rock Community Foundation
Feb 1 – Feb 28 all-day

PRCF donations matched 150% in February
Look at any key community institution in the Post Rock Community Foundation (PRCF) coverage area over the past 10 years and that institution is likely to have at least one project funded, either fully or partially, by a PRCF grant.

Lincoln’s Finch Theatre, Art Center, Municipal Swimming Pool and Frisbee Golf Course, Sylvan Grove’s American Legion, City Library and historic depot, Vesper’s Community Center,
Denmark’s Community Hall and Preservation Foundation, Lucas’ Community Theater and
baseball field, Luray’s Fire Department and Bandstand, Lincoln County Emergency Services,
Hospital, Historical Society and Fairgrounds, the USD #298 and #299 school districts, the City
of Barnard, the City of Beverly, Hunter Economic Development projects and many local
churches are just a few of the many beneficiaries of PRCF grant funding.

Just last year the PRCF awarded $130,000 in grants to more than two dozen different
community projects.

Over the past four years, the PRCF has hosted a Match Month, taking advantage of a matching grant initiative from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, a philanthropic organization based in Logan, Kan., with a mission to “reverse the population decline, increase the economic opportunities and strengthen critical community services” in its 26 county coverage area.

After a historically successful Match Month in February of 2020, punctuated by a well-attended dinner at Flyboy’s in Sylvan Grove, this year the PRCF will host a virtual Match Month in February thanks to recommendations to avoid large gatherings in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

PRCF chairman Ruth Sorensen calls Match Month an opportunity for still more growth and community enhancements.

“Leaders across the entire Post Rock area recognize the economic impact of the many contributions of the Dane G Hansen Foundation,” Sorensen said. “The current Match Month fundraising effort presents yet another opportunity to benefit from the support of this organization. We ask everyone to consider donating to the Post Rock Community Foundation during February 2021 when, because of the Dane G Hansen Foundation, any donations will immediately grow for the good of the local communities.”

During Match Month the Hansen Foundation will match any donation 150%, making every $1 donated worth $2.50.

“To illustrate just how much impact Match Month has on our local area, we can look at the results of the February 2020 Match Month,” Sorensen noted. “Our area supporters generously gave $43,877 and the Hansen Foundation matched that amount 150% by giving $65,816 to our foundation. This resulted in $109,693 growth in the PRCF endowed fund in a month’s time! This money will continue to grow and will help fund exciting projects for the Post Rock area.”

To take advantage of this match consider mailing a donation to the Post Rock Community Foundation, PO Box 62, Sylvan Grove, KS 67481 or go online to donate at https://postrockcf.org/donate-online.

For more information find the Post Rock Community Foundation on Facebook or contact a current board member.

Feb 3 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

Food and Hygiene Distributions
In Lincoln on the first Wednesday of the month at the Lincoln County Health Department from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Each Wednesday, Catholic Charities Mobile Outreach Vans bring food boxes and bags filled with basic necessities like toilet paper, shampoo, soap, deodorant, and toothpaste to struggling families in north central and northwest Kansas.

Catholic Charities Mobile Outreach Vans keep the same schedule each month. The dates may change, but on the first Wednesday of the month, we travel to the same communities at the same times in the same locations. The second and third weeks are the same too.
The fourth week is also the same unless there are five Wednesdays, as the vans always travel to Russell and Plainville on the last Wednesday of the month. But Chapman, Abilene, Beloit and Osborne are always the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Consistency is important. We know people are struggling and the boxes of food and hygiene items are a lifeline for families in rural areas.
Food and hygiene items are also available in all three of our offices any weekday.

Saturday Night Bingo @ Vesper Community Center
Feb 6 @ 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Saturday Night Bingo @ Vesper Community Center

Come out and enjoy some wholesome family fun. Vesper bingo is happening this coming Saturday, February 6 at the Vesper Community Center, 1247 N 120th Rd, Lincoln, Kansas. The Vesper Community Center is conveniently located just a 1/2 mile south of K-18 in Vesper.

Last month Kristen Haase, Ellsworth, won the $250 blackout round and 26 other players received cash prizes. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and delicious fresh made chicken noodle soup, cheesy potatoes, grilled burgers, loaded nachos, sundaes, root beer floats, and fresh hot kettle-cooked popcorn, snacks, and drinks will be sold to fundraise for the community purposes of the center. The popcorn is being sponsored by Pioneer Hi-bred Seed of Sylvan Grove and is absolutely delicious!

The games begin at 7 p.m. and all 20 games can be played for as little as $6. Players can play inside the facility or from their cars using our parking lot FM broadcast and outdoor movie projection screen. Indoor players are asked to socially distance unless they are from the same household.

A tradition for more than 50 years in Vesper, monthly Saturday night bingo is a fundraising event put on by volunteers to support and maintain the community center. This event would not be possible without our business sponsors who help keep the center’s bills paid and this includes the Bank of Tescott and Bennington State bank, S&S Auto Body and Meyer Tire & Lube, the Hungry Hunter, World Pest Control, Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed of Sylvan Grove, and Kansas Midwest Homes & Movers. Please support these local businesses.

More info about our sponsors and links are available at www.vespercc.org.
