The rural and city fire departments respond and act as one department, and also provide mutual aid to all structure fires in all the fire departments within the entire county.

The First Rural Fire Department responds with six trucks including three small brush trucks designed to fight grass fires, a 4X4 pumper truck, a tanker truck and a crash truck. The team of volunteers is currently led by Chief Michel O’Hare and Assistant Chief Greg Babcock. They meet the third Monday of every month to train and maintain equipment.
