Setter Dogs, a premier, licensed bird dog training facility and hunting outfitter in Lincoln County, KS, is looking to hire a bird dog trainer with the possibility of the position including guiding hunters on wild quail, turkey and white-tailed deer.
The bulk of this training position is working with upland hunting dogs, primarily pointing breeds and some flushing/retrieving breeds. Field obedience, gun acclimation, pointing, retrieving and honoring are all part of the program using a checkcord and ecollar teaching the dog to turn pressure off by complying.
The right candidate must love dogs, enjoy working in the outdoors and have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and appreciation for wildlife and hunting. This position helps the kennel maintain licensure with the KS Department of Agriculture by maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment for the dogs. Prior dog training experience is not required but useful; however, a willingness to learn certain dog training methods is required. In addition, this position assists with wildlife habitat improvement projects.
The position is full-time and possibly more. A strong attendance record is a must. A certain appreciation for all types of weather is required. Base pay calculated on a 50 hour work week is $39,600. There is also a 50% income split on dogs you bring in for training. For example, 2 dogs on the training schedule per month and the base pay plus income split is $50,400. Guiding hunters provides additional source of pay.
